High School Chemistry Teacher Lauderdale County School District – Ripley High School, Ripley, Tennessee. Job Description Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Promote logical problem‑solving skills and may be required to teach Chemistry I and/or Chemistry II. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree. Valid Tennessee teaching license. Applicable endorsement for subject area if required. Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned. Knowledge of core academic subject assigned, curriculum and instruction, behavior management. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience. Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans aligning with district curriculum and state guidelines, including accommodations for individual differences. Select appropriate instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and technology reflecting student learning styles. Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEPs. Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements. Plan and assign work to instructional aides or volunteers and oversee completion. Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities. Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selecting instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records. Communication Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s). Mental and Physical Demands Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer; standard instructional equipment. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking. Lifting: Regular light lifting (less than 15 pounds); may lift textbooks and equipment. Environment: Work inside, may work outside; exposure to noise. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Job Requirements At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
