School Bus Aide
Performs responsible human support work in assisting with the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required. Work is performed under immediate supervision.
Providing help to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.
(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
- Assists with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned bus.
- Assists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.
- Assists with the security of students on school buses and observes the special needs of individuals.
- Assists the driver in maintaining adequate discipline.
- Attends field trips with students.
- Checks bus thoroughly after shifts for students and missing or lost items.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Attends training as required.
General knowledge of the transportation of students; some knowledge of transporting students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; good physical and mental health; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students and the general public.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and some experience in working with children.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
