State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection This position is located in Lakeland , FL Position Overview And Responsibilities The Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) AmeriCorps program is a30-year-old program administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Park Service with AmeriCorps Volunteers serving at state parks throughout Florida. AmeriCorps Volunteers serving under FLCC Project A.N.T. (AmeriCorps Nonnative plant Terminators) serve as pairs in approximately 25 state parks, focused on habitat restoration through the management of invasive exotic plants. AmeriCorps Volunteers help to reduce invasive exotic plant infestations through various land management techniques but also educate park visitors and surrounding communities through outreach and interpretation, as well as recruit volunteers to support their exotic plant management endeavors. FLCC AmeriCorps Volunteers for this position will report daily to onsite park management, andsubmitservice data to FLCC staff based in Gainesville, FL AmeriCorps Volunteersare required toserve 1,700 hours betweenSeptember2026–July31, 2027. This equates toapproximately 35– 40 hours per week. Native residents include bald eagles, white-tailed deer, American alligators, otters, and many birds and butterflies. Notably, we are home to threatened species such as the gopher tortoise and the Sherman’s fox squirrel.Visitors can enjoy more than 15 miles of multiuse trails, shared by hikers, bicyclist and those riding horseback, that meander through the pine flatwoods and natural creeks and wetlands. Park lakes afford views of wading birds and alligators, as well as offer a place for anglers to cast their line from the lake's edge or from our 75-foot accessible dock.We offer several different kinds of camping experiences, including primitive campsites, an equestrian campground and a group campground.Pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis or may be reserved ahead of your special event. Our pavilions are perfect for family reunions, birthday parties, weddings, corporate events and many other events that bring people together in an open-air environment.
