Survey Party Chief - Transportation

Job Description Summary Department – Transportation. Job Type: Classified. Job Classification: 5497 – Survey Party Chief. Salary Grade: 12. Pay Range: $27.71 – $38.79 per hour. Salary offer will consider skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training and internal equity. Responsibilities Plan, organize, assign, and review all phases of work for an assigned survey crew. Supervise various types of land surveys including design, easement/property, land, construction, photogrammetry, and as-built. Research and analyze available information and data affecting proposed survey projects from a variety of sources and organize required work to develop additional information. Complete and apply mathematical equations and calculations to land surveying work before and after projects. Select the most time- and cost-efficient methods to accomplish survey projects. Conduct field survey work using GPS equipment, total stations, electronic/optical instruments, and other devices required. Utilize data collector devices to record and collect geospatial data. Produce and maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches of all work performed in manual logs and computer-based systems. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and ensure equipment and instruments are in good working order. Direct implementation of work-site safety and traffic control procedures to assure safety of survey crews. Train survey crew in technical land survey and safety methods, techniques, and procedures. Assign work to and evaluate performance of assigned staff. Minimum Qualifications Three years of surveying field experience, including one year supervising and training technical staff performing land surveying. Satisfactory completion of a construction surveying or elementary surveying course from an accredited college, vocational/technical school, or military training may substitute for two years of required experience. Valid driver’s license (AZ) required at the time of application and appointment. Preferred Qualifications Minimum two (2) years experience operating Trimble equipment. Minimum two (2) years experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Minimum two (2) years experience performing survey calculations. Minimum one (1) year experience performing survey research. Additional Requirements Compliance with a 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review. Background screening verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
