Small Business Banker- Charleston, SC

Summary & Objectives The Small Business Banker is an integral part of the Consumer and Small Business Banking Team and works within the Retail Area Management team to serve the needs of small businesses in their market. This position is responsible for serving existing and prospective small‑business relationships by originating loans, gathering deposits, and cross‑selling bank products to small‑business customers. Responsibilities Conduct prospecting and business development activities in the community to seek small‑business loan, deposit, and banking service opportunities while maintaining world‑class service to existing small‑business relationships. Build relationships with prospects and existing customers through onsite and offsite meetings and outbound calling. Develop and utilize the COI network to enhance the bank’s image and reputation in the marketplace and generate new business. Focus exclusively on customers and prospects that meet Business Lending Express Group (BLE) eligibility criteria, generally operating companies with gross annual revenues up to $5,000,000. Maintain strong professional and referral relationships with other line‑of‑business partners to understand all products and services available to customers. Interview prospective applicants, collect and review application and financial data to determine general creditworthiness and the merits of the loan request. Act as a liaison between the Small Business underwriting and processing teams and the client, efficiently gathering answers to questions and collecting any additional documentation required. Advise customers, where possible, concerning business management and financial matters. Represent the bank by actively endorsing its products and services, making appropriate referrals, and providing leadership in key community activities. Maintain loan and deposit portfolios of clients, manage all reaffirmations and loan renewals within the BLE portfolio. Demonstrate a commitment to fair lending practices and remain knowledgeable of all laws and regulations governing lending activities. Ensure compliance with all applicable bank policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations. Continuously update skills by participating in professional training and seek opportunities for skill improvement offered by the bank. Perform other specifically assigned duties as directed by management. Competencies Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive to complete tasks correctly. Well‑organized, accurate, and attentive to detail. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business or finance is recommended, or equivalent work experience in a related field. Experience: 5+ years of banking and lending experience required. Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of bank products, services, procedures, and practices; strong knowledge of Microsoft Office; basic knowledge of bank operating systems. Physical Demands The position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer, whether sitting or standing, and the ability to access and interpret information on computer screens and documents. Work Environment The role is assigned to a private office but requires regular outside‑office customer meetings and community events. The facility is climate‑controlled.
