Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Titratable gtts: Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed (request manager approval to offer without this experience) - Chest tube management, traches, Peritoneal Dialysis, ISTAT, CSF (lumbar) drains (preferred) - Must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Stroke unit. The unit consists of 12 beds. Patients served include those with CVA/TIA in need of TPA administration, spinal surgical cases, and stepdown unit overflow. Common patient conditions include AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-heart catheterization. The patient ratio is 1 RN to 3 patients, with 1 CNA for every 9 patients. There is a charge nurse who may also have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Respiratory therapy is available in-house. Clientists are on-site. Telemetry monitoring utilizes cardiac monitors in each patient room, connecting to a system at the nurse's station. Remote monitoring is available as a backup. Nurses are responsible for main monitoring and printing EKG strips for each patient per shift. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Pyxis. Nurses may float between units with ratios of 1:5-6. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other weekend. The work schedule consists of 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Nurses will work a 5 on, 5 off, 2 on, 2 off schedule with specific groups assigned to certain days. Time off requests are limited to a maximum of 7 days extending 1 week for each full week requested off. Only 1 weekend of time off can be requested per 13-week contract. Holiday requirements include working 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color for this position is pewter, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black allowed with specific monogramming. Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn visibly at all times. The culture on the unit is traveler-friendly.
