About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in acute care License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience in titratable gtts including Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed. - Chest tube management and tracheostomy care. - Peritoneal Dialysis and CSF (lumbar) drain experience preferred. - Willingness to PASS an EKG competency exam prior to start. Description: This position requires a Registered Nurse specializing in Stroke care. The unit consists of 12 beds with patient types including CVA/TIA requiring TPA administration, spinal surgical patients, and step-down overflow patients. Patient ratios are RN: 1:3 with CNA: 1:9. The charge nurse may have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM. Respiratory therapy is in-house. Clientists are available in-house as well. Telemetry monitoring is conducted with cardiac monitors in each patient room connecting to a central station. Nurses are responsible for monitoring and printing EKG strips for their assigned patients. The charting system used is an electronic medical record (EMR) known as Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Pyxis. Travelers may be scheduled to float to Stepdown and MedSurg units with ratios of 1:5-6. Weekends are scheduled on a rotating basis, requiring every other weekend. Nurses will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next, following a mandatory rotation. Each traveler may request time off, but must adhere to specific guidelines. Holiday work will be required for 2 out of 3 holidays during the contract. Scrub color is pewter, and shirts must be gray, white, or black with the designated monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be visible at all times. The culture on the unit is traveler-friendly.
