MEP Superintendent (High Voltage)

Division : Carolinas Project Location(s) : Raleigh, NC 27601 USA Job Type : Regular Job Classification : Experienced Job Family : Construction Compensation : Salaried Exempt Position Description Oversees the planning, installation, testing, and commissioning of high‑ and medium‑voltage electrical systems on construction projects. The role coordinates electrical subcontractors, enforces safety and quality standards, and ensures work complies with codes, project schedules, and budgets. It serves as the on‑site technical leader for high‑voltage power distribution and critical electrical infrastructure, directing the work of subcontractors and Turner trade labor for mechanical and electrical systems. The superintendent ensures safety, schedule delivery, quality of work, and budget adherence, and has supervisory responsibility for Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, interns, and trade labor. Reports to: Project Superintendent, Project Manager, or MEP Manager Essential Duties & Responsibilities Manage performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and staffing levels. Coordinate among assigned trades to promote a coordinated project operation, resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, labor, equipment, and schedule. Manage the overall site safety program and ensure subcontractor compliance with Turner standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations. Supervise and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and interns, including providing input on performance appraisals. Ensure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements at all times. Create schedules and determine sequencing of work; develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule and budget. Communicate with owners, architects, and engineers regarding field issues, investigating and resolving such issues. Manage the billing process, oversee monthly estimates of work completed, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payment applications. Ensure work is installed in compliance with and conforms to approved contract documents. Coordinate mechanical and electrical systems, equipment, and piping layouts with the Engineer on a master coordination set of drawings and 3‑D model, securing approval of architects and engineers. Lead project inspections, startup, commissioning, turnover, training, and punchlist required for acceptance and handover of all systems. Direct and monitor subcontractor and supplier activities to ensure conformity with plans, specifications, local and national codes. Review project changes with the Project Engineer. Keep detailed daily records of MEPS trade contractors’ work progress. Participate in preconstruction efforts such as constructability and logistics. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or at least four years of formal engineering or architectural experience and a minimum of six years of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Knowledge of building construction, methods, scheduling, cost control procedures, general contract and subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications. Specific knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and thorough knowledge of building information modeling for coordination of mechanical and electrical systems and other project systems. Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office. Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Physical Demands Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction hoists, climb ladders, and navigate work areas under construction. Vision requirements include close, peripheral, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Use of hand tools, sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required. Occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Work Environment Regular on‑site work at construction sites where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Risk of electrical shock and noise levels are usually moderate to very loud. *May perform other duties as assigned.
