Chief Engineer – Job Summary

The Chief Engineer leads the engineering team and oversees all building operations to ensure high-quality service, regulatory compliance, and alignment with company standards and client expectations. This role manages maintenance programs, budgets, and staff development while maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable building systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, train, and develop engineering and maintenance staff; manage performance and disciplinary processes.
• Oversee all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety) and ensure optimal operation and compliance with codes and company policies.
• Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Monitor utilities, energy usage, and operating expenses; support budgeting and variance reporting.
• Conduct inspections, resolve system issues, and implement continuous improvements.
• Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and project coordination.
• Maintain documentation (manuals, drawings, warranties, system records).
• Ensure full compliance with safety programs and respond to emergencies.
• Communicate effectively with tenants, clients, and internal stakeholders.
• Perform hands-on engineering duties as needed (approx. 50-75%).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in commercial building engineering or similar.
• Relevant licenses/certifications (e.g., HVAC/CFC, electrical) as required.
• Knowledge of EMS, fire systems, and basic financial/budgeting principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
