Culinary Assistant

Overview Job Title: Para-Educator Culinary Support - Full-time. Reports To: Director of Food Services. Location: Plymouth, NH. Pay Range: $18 to $22 per hour. As a Culinary Support Para-Educator you will have the opportunity to directly impact the lives of at-risk students in our communities. This position is part-time, Monday - Friday, Day Shift, with great benefits. Responsibilities Assist in the preparation and service of meals for students and faculty. Prepare and service meals in residential treatment facilities for up to 45 youth and 20 staff per shift. Provide input to the person identified by MPA to create menus, and implement these menus in compliance with nutrition rules outlined by the NH Department of Health & Human Services and the NH Department of Education. Participate in the Food Count program, ensuring timely and accurate food count records. Safely store all sharps and hazardous kitchen equipment out of reach of students in locked containers. Maintain safety and sanitation standards in each kitchen, including inspections and compliance with state and federal regulations as well as MPA food service procedures; monitor cooking times and temperatures; assist in cleaning utensils, equipment and work areas. Work with and supervise students and/or other helpers in food preparation while maintaining safety and sanitation standards. Be familiar with terminology, weights, measures, and proper use of equipment used in an institutional kitchen. Take direction from Executive Directors on each campus; communicate effectively; be physically able to stand long hours. Perform required lifting as needed to stock supplies and perform cooking and cleaning duties. Communicate effectively with students and faculty to ensure safety and sanitation standards are followed. Prepare dinners and weekend meals in advance for faculty to enable easy cooking and serving for students. Order and stock supplies for food storage and food services (paper goods, cleaning supplies, and other household goods as necessary). Monitor stock of items and inventory of food and food service items. Collaborate with MPA campus kitchens to provide meal services according to NH DOE guidelines during the school day, and monitor inventory of paper goods at the SRA location when necessary. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements Must be 21 years or older. Must be willing and able to travel by vehicle to other MPA campus kitchens to perform culinary obligations, as needed and directed. 1 or more years of experience as a cook helping in the preparation of food for large groups, or two or more years of commercial, industrial, or institutional cooking experience. (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes 15 earned credit hours in Food Preparation, Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
