Medical Oncology Advanced Practice Provider

The Dartmouth Cancer Center at Dartmouth‑Hitchcock Medical Center and New London Hospital seek a Nurse Practitioner to provide high‑quality, compassionate, evidence‑based, patient‑centered care through the Section of Oncology in the oncology clinic at New London Hospital. This full‑time, salaried position involves assessing and managing the healthcare needs of hematology and medical oncology patients, emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness. The role functions as part of the provider team to care for the department’s panel of patients, including medical infusion patients, and works collaboratively with local health‑care facilities. Responsibilities Utilize clinical skills to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with cancer or hematologic disorders. Consult and collaborate with a department physician or appropriate specialist to plan and manage care for patients with unstable, complex acute or chronic illness. Ensure exemplary care and facilitate an environment centered on the needs of patients, families, and nursing staff. Manage therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic conditions associated with cancer care or hematologic disorders. Monitor toxicities, assess clinical responses, and implement revised care plans as needed. Provide education for patients receiving chemotherapy or immunotherapy in the infusion suite. Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide longitudinal care for hematology/oncology patients and episodic care for urgent/emergent needs of patients in the infusion suite. Serve as a clinical authority and resource, providing education and consultation to health‑care team members. Provide guidance and psychological and emotional support to patients and families. Perform problem‑focused health history, physical and psychosocial assessment, and prescribe evidence‑based treatments. Add and modify chemotherapy or immunotherapy orders as part of each patient’s treatment regimen. Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiological tests to evaluate patient status. Prescribe medications, medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services as needed. Actively participate with the Advanced Practice Provider team through monthly meetings, annual retreats, journal club, and biannual peer review processes. Perform other duties as requested. Required Licensure/Certifications Graduate of an accredited APRN program. Board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Eligible for APRN licensure in the State of New Hampshire and the State of Vermont. Eligible for Federal DEA registration.
