We want you to be part of this legacy and take it forward and that aligns with our core values of being Welcoming, Curious, Authentic, and Passionate.The HVAC technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing residential, commercial, and industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems. Responds promptly to service requests from business and support departments to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for visitors and staff while protecting the museum's valuable collections and artifacts. Performs operation, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on campus HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS). Monitors system performance analyzes equipment efficiency and independently diagnoses mechanical and control issues. Provides technical recommendations and solutions to management based on diagnostic findings, supporting informed decisions regarding system maintenance, repairs, and operational improvements.Essential ResponsibilitiesInstalls, repairs, and services heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systemsMonitors, troubleshoots, and makes necessary program adjustments to computerized systemsMonitors and ensures HVAC system performance in alignment with THF facilities planUtilizes building automation systems to monitor campus conditions, analyze system data, conduct diagnostics, and respond to heating, cooling, mechanical, and controls-related issuesTroubleshoots and resolves HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls issues, escalating issues as appropriateInstalls, tests, calibrates, and commissions mechanical systems and components using appropriate electronic testing equipmentProvides technical recommendations to Facilities Management regarding HVAC system settings, operational adjustments, and equipment performance and selection; recommendations are subject to review and approval prior to implementationPerforms and documents routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and post-incident evaluations of HVAC systems and related infrastructureMaintains accurate records and routinely reports on HVAC system performance and statusOrders and maintains supplies and equipmentPrioritizes and schedules repair requestsContributes to the effective team management of all problems, issues, and opportunitiesActs as a team player and provides expertise within the team and with other teams as appropriatePerforms other job-related duties and activities as assignedMinimum Qualifications7 or more total years of hands-on HVAC experienceValid HVAC license, encompassing the knowledge and experience to install, service, troubleshoot and repair a variety of HVAC systems, including:HVAC installationBoiler systemsHeat pump systemsMini-split systemsVariable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systemsRooftop HVAC unitsAbility to frequently work above and below grade level that include ladders, crawl or other confined spacesPreferred QualificationsAssociate degree in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, or a related field, or completion of a recognized technical or trade school HVAC certification programAbility to fabricate and modify sheet metal components using standard HVAC tools and equipmentSpecial SkillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all organizational levelsProven ability to build trust, collaborate, and drive change within a dynamic environmentStrong written, verbal, and active listening skills with excellent interpersonal abilitiesPersonal qualities of humility, self-awareness, self-reflection, and emotional intelligenceStrong decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation, and active listening skillsAbility to read and interpret blueprintsAbility to complete ductwork drawings and facilitate installationCapable of operating a variety of hand and power toolsGood communication skills with the ability to work independently without direct supervisionCommitment to and enthusiasm for The Henry Ford's mission, vision, values, and service standardsPhysical / Mental / EnvironmentalPhysical: Standing, Walking: Typical. Lifting, carrying, and pushing: Occasional, up to 100 lbs. Tolerance for hot and cold temperatures preferred. Unless noted here, other physical requirements are minimal or not applicable. Ability to safely operate heavy machinery and aerial lifts. Ability to read guest needs and interests and respond appropriately. Should be able to work under pressure.Environment: Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons (including sunny and inclement weather) as necessary. Non-air-conditioned interiors.
