General Manager

The North Star is seeking a General Manager.

Located in the iconic Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, The North Star is a bookstore, bourbon bar and cafe where thinkers, dreamers and revolutionaries gather to READ. DRINK. PLOT. Founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones alongside her partners Rotimi and Ayo Akinnuoye, longtime Bed-Stuy business owners behind Bed-Vyne Wine & Spirits and the legendary Bed-Vyne Brew, The North Star will feature Black-owned spirits and showcase the diaspora’s greatest literary and intellectual talent through book talks, workshops and events.

This role is equal parts operational leadership and cultural stewardship. You’ll oversee the daily operations of our bar, kitchen, and bookstore—ensuring everything runs smoothly and with care with all work focused on providing an exemplary, upscale customer experience.

You’ll manage staff, uphold the highest standards of service and cleanliness, and keep all parts of the business organized and aligned, while overseeing inventory, ordering, and vendor and customer relationships.

Qualifications:
– 5+ years managing a restaurant, bar, or café
– Strong leadership, communication, team-building and organizational skills
– Strong knowledge of Dept. of Health standards and experience maintaining compliance
– Experience with inventory, vendors, and high-volume operations
– Comfortable with POS systems and basic financial tracking
– Event execution a plus
– Must take as the highest priority customer experience and service, quality and attention to detail.
