About the Position

St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, New York, is seeking a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist to provide locum tenens coverage in its hospital-based pathology laboratory.

Coverage Dates

• October 5–9
• October 12–16
• December 21–24
• December 28–31
• January 4–8

Candidates should indicate which coverage blocks they can commit to at the time of submission.

Position Details

• Practice setting: Hospital-based pathology laboratory
• Schedule: Weekday coverage with no call
• Required procedures:
  • Surgical pathology
  • Cytology
  • Frozen section analysis
• Annual volume:
  • Approximately 13,000 surgical pathology specimens
  • Approximately 3,000 cytology specimens
• The physician will be responsible for grossing specimens.
• The physician will cut their own frozen sections using the cryostat.
• Other pathologists will be present during the assignment.
• No supervision of other healthcare providers is required.

• 5 histotechnologists
• 1 pathology assistant
• 2 cytotechnologists

Laboratory and Technology

• EMR/documentation: Epic Beaker
• Laboratory certifications: CLIA and New York State
• Cytology preparation method: ThinPrep
• Cytology equipment: Hologic ThinPrep Integrated Imager
• Cryostats: Avantik QS12UV and Avantik QS II
• Microscopes: Nikon Eclipse E400 and Olympus BX41
• GYN cytology proficiency examination required
• Facility designation: Level III Trauma Center
