Plasma Center Nurse - LPN

About the Role You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The role requires familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. It involves following guidance from BioLife Medical Affairs and providing center‑level support of environmental, health, and safety (EHS). How You Will Contribute Determine donor eligibility, including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, and confidential self‑exclusion; conduct medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). Evaluate donor reactions and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities. Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility. Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees. Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, following EHS guidance regarding employee incidents. Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements. Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Current CPR and AED certification. Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy. Successful completion of FDA‑approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist. Minimum two years in a clinical or hospital setting. Benefits Competitive hourly wage: $24.32 – $33.44 in Birmingham, AL, subject to qualifications and experience.
