Parking Enforcement Officer

Parking Enforcement Officer Job Summary Provides dispatch services for assigned department. Uses a multi‑line telephone system to receive and relay information to appropriate units. Creates and logs incident reports. Responsibilities Answers incoming telephone calls on a multi‑line telephone system and disseminates information via telephone or two‑way radio. Contacts external agencies such as paramedic, fire, ambulance, animal control and police services to handle critical incidents. Assists the public via telephone and in‑person to assess situations and problems. Determines appropriate response and relays accurate information to the units responsible for action. Prioritizes incident reports and maintains an accurate log to meet federal, state and university requirements. Inputs and retrieves pertinent information from a computerized database to assist university staff and the general public. Utilizes and complies with proper security and radio procedures. Works closely with other dispatch centers when required. Patrols parking lots, checking for proper permits and issuing citations for improper parking. Provides motorist services to the university community and the public, such as starting cars and directing people to parking and buildings on campus. Assists visitors and registered users of the campus parking system in understanding regulations and parking availability. Processes copies of issued citations and completes related forms during shift. Directs traffic in parking lots during special events, including football, basketball, entertainment, theatrical productions, and commencement. Impounds vehicles parked in tow‑away zones or those involved with excessive citations according to departmental procedures. Problem Solving Dispatchers are responsible for questioning callers to obtain sufficient information in emergency situations and to conduct confidential information searches as requested. They must maintain proper priorities when confronted with multiple calls and think clearly under stressful conditions, especially when dealing with distressed individuals or difficult communications. Dispatchers must quickly evaluate situations and relay accurate information to the relevant parties for resolution. Minimum Qualifications Six months of related experience, or equivalency of one year of education substituted for two years of related work experience. Ability to speak concisely and distinctly. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stressful conditions. Previous computer experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
