Violence Intervention Program

Position: Social Worker (Spanish Speaking), Sexual Violence Program Department: Community & Specialized Programs Location (s): Hybrid-Citywide Reports To: Manager, Sexual Violence Program The Violence Intervention Program, Inc. (VIP) is the only culturally specific non-profit organization in New York City serving Latinx survivors of domestic and sexual violence, the vast majority of whom are immigrants. Created as a grassroots response to intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP has always centered survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities it serves. VIP operates three community-based social service programs, two residential shelter and housing programs, a bilingual hotline, innovative economic justice and sexual violence programs, and a robust communications and outreach team. The Sexual Violence Program Social Worker provides trauma-informed, supportive services to survivors of sexual violence, providing short-term individual counseling services, including co-facilitation of group healing practices. The social worker works closely with the Project Manager, counselor advocate, and survivors to identify culturally relevant healing modalities for Latina/o/x survivors of sexual violence, many of whom are immigrants. The social worker also provides community-based preventive education and raises awareness about VIP resources. This position works with VIP’s Community Engagement team to identify key partners and establish relationships to improve coordinated responses to sexual violence. This position is crucial in training survivors, staff, and volunteers to deepen their understanding of trauma responses, engaging survivors and resources related to sexual violence. The ideal candidate is a compassionate person with a demonstrated commitment to providing trauma-informed and survivor-centered practices to survivors of sexual violence. The social worker embraces values of diversity, cultural humility, teamwork, and community empowerment. Essential Functions: Supporting the clinical expansion of sexual violence programming and improving organization-wide delivery of sexual violence services; Co-facilitating group counseling for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; Collaborating with all VIP programs in the recruitment and coordination of clients who participate in sexual violence support groups; Providing comprehensive short-term individual clinical services with a trauma and strength-based perspective to help clients cope and heal from the experience of sexual violence; Providing advocacy, emotional support, and safety planning for survivors; Remaining abreast of new developments and changes in policies and practices impacting survivors (immigration, sexual violence, poverty, etc.); Attending agency and department meetings and participate in external stakeholder meetings, task force meetings etc., related to sexual violence and gender-based violence; Represent VIP at conferences, community meetings, and special events, including Promoting VIP services at all public functions; Establishing and maintaining formal linkages with community agencies to connect survivors to legal, mental health, parenting, and bilingual resources. Data Collection & Entry: Ensure proper maintenance of documentation requirements (including logs, case notes, statistical and narrative reports, etc.); Maintain up-to-date data entry of all groups and outreach/training conducted and direct services provided; Work with supervisor and VIP Data Team to ensure timely delivery of all grant reports; Collaborate with VIP’s Data Team to develop tools, collect and analyze data, and participate in rigorous program evaluation; Support evaluation of program effectiveness/efficiency to ensure the highest standards of excellence in services and full compliance with policies, procedures, and contractual obligations. Additional Functions: Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines; Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and produce a quality work product; Perform other tasks as required, including any related administrative duties, as needed. Requirements: Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field plus one (1) year of post-graduate clinical experience; LMHC, LMSW, or other clinical license required within the first year of hire; Fluency in Spanish and English (written & verbal); Must be willing to provide services in-person and virtually; Experience providing counseling and other clinical-related services to trauma survivors; Experience providing counseling to children and families; Experience with workshop and/or group facilitation and training and/or presenting to individuals and groups; Experience with advocacy-based counseling and/or other empowerment-based models; Familiarity with therapeutic modalities such as Body-Oriented Trauma Counseling, Exposure Therapy, Creative Arts Therapies, and/or Motivational Interviewing preferred; Experience working in a culturally and linguistically diverse environment; Familiarity with issues of trauma, violence prevention, and victimization; Must be passionate about intersectional social justice issues impacting survivors of trauma; Knowledge of and a deep demonstrated commitment to working against gender-based violence; Must be knowledgeable in working with diverse communities, religious, class, disabilities, and cultural backgrounds, as well as people of all gender identities and sexualities; Familiarity with conditions and issues impacting immigrant and Latinx communities; Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including collaboration with professionals across disciplines & bringing self-awareness and accountability to the workplace; Ability to travel on public/reliable transportation; Strong verbal, written, leadership, communication, and documenting skills; Must be able to exercise good sound judgment and sensitivity at all times; Must ensure agency, program, and client confidentiality at all times. Full-time, non-exempt position, working 35 hours per week with a pay rate of $65,000/year. We cover 90% of the cost of medical (United Healthcare/Oxford), dental (Aetna) and vision (VSP) coverage for employee and spouse/children/family.
