Job Summary and Qualifications

The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role within the radiation oncology team. This team is focused on delivering patient care and supportive services aimed at achieving optimal patient outcomes through the combined expertise of all department members. The Radiation Oncology RN is tasked with assessing and implementing appropriate nursing interventions for both actual and potential issues that patients and their families may face concerning the disease, treatment, and follow-up. This position also involves teaching, counseling, and providing support to help patients and families navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work both independently and collaboratively with the radiation oncology team to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Deliver clinical care, nursing consultation, and education related to oncology and radiation therapy.
• Conduct assessments, diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation, focusing on the continuum of care for patients undergoing radiotherapy, along with their families and caregivers.
• Engage in leadership roles as a clinician, educator, consultant, and/or researcher.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to improve clinical outcomes.
• Notify the radiation oncologist of any significant changes in a patient’s condition and execute the nursing action plan to address these issues.
• Assist in coordinating the care and flow of radiation oncology patients within the clinic as part of the nursing team.
• Support the learning needs of patients, families, and significant others by identifying barriers to learning, such as language or cultural differences, and incorporating this information into the care plan.
• Document the educational needs of patients, families, and caregivers in collaboration with other disciplines, and implement ongoing education tailored to these needs.
• Provide explanations of tests, procedures, disease processes, medications, and equipment to patients and families throughout treatment.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Associate Degree, Registered Nurse Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.

• No travel is required.
• No prior experience is necessary.
