Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent telemetry experience and active MO or compact RN license.

Details

• 24-bed intermediate care/PCU unit within a 456-bed tertiary care, Level I Trauma, 5-time Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Patient population includes intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow cases such as TURP, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic hernia repair, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, and wound care
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday)
• Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
• No on-call requirements
• Charting performed in Epic
• Required skills include: cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, telemetry monitoring, IV therapy and phlebotomy (port access, central/PICC/peripheral line management, blood product administration), IV insulin protocols, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), feeding tube care, heparin protocols, PCA management, CVA care, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
• Preferred skills include: insulin drip titration, renal failure management, tracheostomy care, total joint replacement, ortho trauma, surgical drains, and eye surgery experience
• Eligible work settings include: MS/Tele, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown

Requirements

• Active MO RN license or compact RN license (both Kansas and Missouri licenses, or a compact license, must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating across state lines may be required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Certifications required: BLS, NIHSS
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Charge RN experience preferred
• SSN required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: at least one must be at the supervisor level or above; the second may be from a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year

• Fast-paced unit that serves as a throughput hub for both the ED and OR
• Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage may be required as needed

• Pre-start Epic training modules are required; candidates may choose between an Epic test-out option or the Epic module
• Infusion pump and glucometer training must be completed prior to the first day of the assignment
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
• RTO is capped at 7 days and must be finalized at the time of consideration; no additional RTO or schedule requests can be made after that point
• Candidates who have previously worked at this health system must have an 18-month gap with at least a 3-month break in service before returning as a traveler
• Permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before working as a traveler at any BJC facility
• Travel partners are not accepted for this position
