Workforce Development Plumbing Instructor

Workforce Development Plumbing Instructor Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks faculty to teach up to 1500 hours per year as an Adjunct Instructor in the Workforce Development Department. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. Applicants will be part of a standing pool which the College will draw on as scheduling needs dictate. This position will teach NCCER Core and Plumbing Levels 1-2 courses. The Adjunct Plumbing Instructor directly supports Workforce Development’s Plumbing program and helps meet all training needs for the department. Responsibilities include instructing students in major and minor plumbing repairs, installations, tool usage, shop safety, and curriculum topics such as Introduction to the Plumbing Profession, Plumbing Safety, Tools of the Plumbing Trade, Plumbing Math, Drain‑Waste‑Vent systems, water distribution, plumbing fixtures, and basic electricity and fuel systems. The role also involves maintaining program inventories, ensuring sufficient consumables and supplies and equipment, preparing instructional materials, monitoring plumbing lab and equipment needs, securing instructional aids, and establishing industry relationships to ensure relevant training and create a pipeline of jobs for graduating students. Essential functions: Design and delivery of instruction for day and evening classes. Deliver courses covering knowledge of plumbing systems. Responsible for student assessment and grading. Maintain adequate on‑campus presence. Provide timely communication with students, staff, and administrators. Special Assignments: May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent. Significant work experience within the plumbing field. Prior experience delivering or developing training. Passion for the discipline and commitment to a student‑centered philosophy for diverse learners. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Willingness to serve traditional and non‑traditional students from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Ability to modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning. Adopt methods that fairly measure student progress toward learning outcomes. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience or strong interest in teaching and inspiring adult learners. Must be able to work at all campus locations. Additional Considerations Community college teaching experience. Teaching experience in online, hybrid, or traditional face‑to‑face modalities. Proficiency with instructional technologies and learning management systems such as Canvas. Ability to measure, assess, and align student outcomes. Journeyman or Master Plumber certification. Workers will operate a state vehicle. No supervisory responsibilities are required.
