Custodian (Part-time)

Position Summary Under the supervision of the Central Park Place Events & Facilities Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of Central Park Place. Your duties will include custodial tasks, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance. Interacts with facility users to assure satisfaction and proper use and operations of facilities. Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Provides Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, window cleaning, carpet cleaning and sanitizing restrooms. Empty trash bins and maintain waste disposal areas. Keep common areas, offices, and meeting rooms tidy and presentable. Conduct minor repairs, such as, changing light bulbs, painting, and patching minor wall damage. Address any safety hazards promptly (e.g., loose handrails, broken tiles, etc.). Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs or maintenance projects. Maintain exterior areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and landscaping. Clear snow, ice, and debris from walkways during inclement weather. Report any landscaping or grounds-related issues to the appropriate department. Monitor building security systems (e.g., alarms, access control). Ensure emergency exits are clear and accessible. Collaborate with emergency responders during drills or actual incidents. Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, repairs, and custodial activities. Track inventory of cleaning supplies and report shortages. Prepare event spaces by arranging furniture, setting up equipment, and ensuring proper signage. Assist with event logistics, including seating arrangements, audiovisual setup, and decorations. After events, dismantle equipment, clean up, and restore the space to its original condition. Performs all other duties as assigned. Schedule This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. The specific schedule will be determined collaboratively by the selected candidate and the organization. Hours will primarily fall between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekend coverage also required. Some flexibility will be necessary to accommodate event setup and teardown needs, which may occasionally fall outside the regular schedule. Required Education, Training and Experience A high school diploma or GED or equivalent. Previous experience in custodial work or building maintenance preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the practices and safety issues involved in the operation of public facilities. Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in public service work. Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories. Strong attention to detail and time management skills. Ability to work independently and complete assigned work in a timely manner. Ability to understand and apply applicable health and safety standards to assure safe and hygienic working conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Physical Requirements: An employee in this position spends the majority of their time actively engaged in physical duties. Duties typically involve moderate to heavy physical activity and exertion, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. An employee in this position is regularly exposed to fumes, dust, chemicals or other hazardous materials, and equipment and other dangers associated with public services. An employee in this position must have the strength, stamina and physical coordination required to participate in physical labor as lifting extremely heavy items and walking for extended periods. Further, physical labor such as snow shoveling or landscape maintenance must be performed in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat and severe cold weather. This position is required to have the vision capabilities and manual dexterity needed to operate all assigned equipment and complete tasks. Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
