This role is not only responsible for security patrols and incident prevention but also for delivering compassionate, service-oriented support that aligns with Neighborhood Healthcare's mission statement. This role requires a proactive approach to risk mitigation, basic safety-related maintenance, and respectful interaction with individuals across diverse backgrounds and needs. Security Officers serve as ambassadors of safety/security that promote a welcoming and secure environment for all who enter our clinics.Monday - Friday 8:15 AM - 5:15 PMResponsibilitiesSafety & Security OperationsConduct high-visibility security patrols throughout clinical buildings, grounds, and parking areas to deter incidents, identify risks, deter theft, violence, and unsafe behaviorsMonitor and report potential safety hazards or environmental concerns (e.g., broken lights, spills, unsafe walkways)Respond promptly and professionally to incidents involving patients, visitors, or staff, and conduct thorough and timely documentationFollow established safety protocols and organizational procedures in all interactions and decisionsMake decisions according to proper policies and proceduresAlways remain alert and visible to provide a reassuring presence to patients, staff, and visitorsEnforcement of access control policies, visitor screening, and facility protocols in a respectful, culturally sensitive mannerWhen requested, escort employees, visitors, or patients to vehicles or destinations, especially in low-light and high-stress situationsComplete Security Event Log (SEL) entries thoroughly and promptly after incidents or observationsAdministration & ComplianceGreet and assist patients, employees, and guests in a professional and courteous mannerEscort patients in need using facility-provided wheelchairs and ensure safe transport to and from entrancesPerform occasional basic maintenance tasks without compromising security responsibilities when safety or cleanliness is compromisedReport any unsafe conditions to safety/security leadershipFollow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare's Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries/unsafe conditions immediatelyMaintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safety work practicesBe knowledgeable of each site's fire extinguishers, emergency exits, evacuation routes, and utilities shut offsFollow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogens protocolsMaintains privacy of all patients, participants, employees and volunteer information and access to such information for official purposes onlyComply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and safety/security obligationsReport on all behavior, activity that is unethical, fraudulent or unlawful to safety and security managementSecurity Officer Duties & ExpectationsServe as a role model for professionalism, customer service, and safe conduct across all sitesTravel between Neighborhood Healthcare sites for training, event support, critical incident response and other operational needsDemonstrate compassion, integrity, and cultural sensitivity in every interactionHelp create a welcoming and caring environment for those we serveSupport the organization's mission by promoting safety that reinforces trust, equity, and access to careMaintain a professional appearance and demeanor that instills confidence in patients, visitors, and staffParticipate in regular safety and security training, including de-escalation, emergency preparedness, and healthcare complianceWillingness to work flexible hours and travel to sites for operational needsEducation/ExperienceHigh School Diploma/GED requiredCurrent California Guard Card required1 year of experience as a security officer or other similar work experienceValid CA driver's license required maintained as a condition of employmentActive auto insurance required and maintained as a condition of employmentExperience in healthcare, public safety, or community service settings preferredBilingual highly preferredBasic Life Support (BLS) RequirementsCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment. These courses must follow AHA guidelines, but may be completed through approved online providers such as ProMed or other equivalent programs that meet recognized BLS standardsAdditional Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)Must have a personal cell phone to use for work (monthly stipend provided by NHC)Personal vehicle to drive between sites (mileage reimbursement paid by NHC)Strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formKnowledgeable about established safety/security policies and proceduresAbility to understand and follow established policies and proceduresAbility to multi-taskManage confidential information in a professional and ethical manner, in line with current NHC policies and proceduresConflict resolution and de-escalation abilitiesFamiliarity with report writing, basic computer use, and incident documentationPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift/carry 50lbsAbility to stand for long periods of timeAbility to drive between sitesUse appropriate body mechanics to promote an injury-free environmentAbility to push, pull, lift, carry, crawl, and potentially climb to reach areas in and around the facility using safety protocols and NHC practices regarding equipment policies and proceduresAbility to work outside for long periods of time during inclement weatherAbility to wear and use safety equipment, such as gloves, eye protection, vests, and safety shoesCompliance (Safety & HIPAA)Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare's Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediatelyMaintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practicesFollows all safety procedures and reports unsafe conditionsUses appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environmentFamiliarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exitsFollows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocolsMaintains privacy of all patients, employees and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposesComply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligationsReports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawfulNeighborhood Healthcare offers a generous benefit plan that includes: Partially company paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans.
