Our organization is seeking an innovative physician leader to take on the role of System Chief of Hematologic Malignancies . This pivotal position aims to enhance and broaden our hematologic oncology research initiatives within one of the most vibrant health systems in the country. This role is in line with our mission to overcome geographic, socioeconomic, and accessibility challenges, ensuring that individuals receive top-tier, compassionate cancer care along with access to groundbreaking investigational therapies.

We are looking for a proactive individual to establish a premier clinical and translational research program focused on hematologic malignancies. Our organization treats over 24,000 cancer patients each year and boasts a network of more than 400 Cancer Institute physicians across 25+ subspecialties. The Cancer Institute is continuously setting new benchmarks in clinical care, research, and education throughout the New York metropolitan area. Following the recent integration of Nuvance Health, our influence now extends into Connecticut and the Hudson Valley. This leader will play a crucial role in guiding our strategic expansion as a health system that offers access to research and clinical trials in oncology.

The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research acts as the core of our research initiatives and a center for scientific innovation, including the Institute of Cancer Research, where pioneering translational cancer studies are conducted. Additionally, a strategic collaboration formed in 2015 between our organization and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has expedited the application of fundamental scientific discoveries into patient care through the creation of innovative early-phase clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities as System Chief of Hematologic MalignanciesDevelop a Leading Program

• Create and execute a unified strategy for hematologic malignancies across the system.

• Establish specialized centers of excellence with dedicated multidisciplinary teams for:

  • Lymphoma (both Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin)
  • Leukemia (including Acute and Chronic - ALL, AML, CLL, CML)
  • Multiple Myeloma and Plasma Cell Disorders

• Collaborate with our cellular therapy and bone marrow transplant programs to ensure a seamless continuum of care from diagnosis through survivorship.

Advance a Bold Research Agenda

• Establish and strengthen a comprehensive clinical trials framework for hematologic malignancies, including early-phase (Phase I/II) investigator-led studies.

• Recruit and mentor physician-scientists to develop translational and clinical research portfolios.

• Contribute to achieving NCI designation through scholarly output, grant acquisition, and program development.

Emphasize Academic Excellence

• Promote a culture of academic distinction.

• Develop future leaders through medical education, fellowship training, and mentorship initiatives.

• Collaborate with the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell to further educational and academic objectives.

Qualifications

• MD or MD/PhD from an accredited institution.

• Board Certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.

• Extensive clinical expertise and a recognized national/international reputation in one or more areas of hematologic malignancies (lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, MDS/MPNs).

• Proven history of productive clinical and translational cancer research.

• Demonstrated success in securing external peer-reviewed funding.

• Eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at the Zucker School of Medicine.

• Active or eligible for medical licensure in New York State.
