About the Position The Petco Vetco Total Care Full‑Service Veterinary Hospital is seeking a qualified veterinarian to provide comprehensive animal care, perform surgeries, and lead the medical team in delivering high‑quality service to pet owners. Essential Job Functions Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and delivering preventive care based on patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. Utilize a problem‑based approach that includes developing a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, a diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on diagnostic results. Document all patient observations, exam findings, diagnostic results, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record concisely and accurately. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including, but not limited to, spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory procedures, and mass removals. Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations, evaluation of radiographs, and simple and complex extractions and oral surgical procedures. Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization based on problem‑based assessment; transition patients to overnight care as needed and coordinate with referral hospitals. Other Duties and Responsibilities Participate in rounds as an incoming or exiting doctor at the beginning and end of shifts. Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication provided to patients and clients. Perform additional duties as assigned. Education and Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school. Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state of the hospital, or the ability to obtain licensure by the start date. Current DEA license. Current Controlled Substance license in the state of the hospital, or the ability to obtain it by the start date. USDA Category I accreditation or completion within two months of hire. Comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, including spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compassionate and professional demeanor during emotional or stressful situations. Telephone and computer skills. Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and embrace change. Work Environment The majority of duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full‑service hospital, requiring bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. The role involves frequent direct contact with clients and pets. Contact Regular communication with clients, veterinary specialists, and product and service providers that the practice uses. Salary Range $87,700.00 – $186,100.00 Hourly or salary range will be reflected above.
