Fiber Splicing Lead

The Fiber Splicer Lead is responsible for leading a team of fiber splicers in installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic cables. This role requires extensive knowledge of fiber splicing techniques, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to ensuring high-quality work. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in fiber optics and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

REQUIREMENTS

Lead and supervise a team of fiber splicers in the field, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to high standards. Perform and oversee the splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and company policies. Conduct site surveys and plan fiber splicing activities based on project requirements and timelines. Provide technical guidance and training to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met. Maintain accurate records of splicing activities, including as-built documentation and test results. Manage splicing materials and equipment inventory, ensuring availability for upcoming projects. Respond to emergency repair requests and outages, including after-hours work as necessary. Stay informed about advancements in fiber optic technology and implement best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic splicing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Proficiency with fiber optic splicing and testing equipment, including OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters. Strong understanding of fiber optic network architecture and splicing techniques. Understanding of fiber indexing technology. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to various job sites as required. Physical ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Depending on the assigned area, usually outdoor, warehouse, or construction environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enables the use of machinery and equipment. Oral and auditory capacity enables interpersonal communication and communication through automated devices like the telephone. Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office levels to loud levels due to equipment and machinery use.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

Comply with all company safety programs, rules, regulations, procedures, and instructions applicable to his/her own actions and conduct. Refrain from any unsafe act that might endanger him/herself or fellow workers. Obey all posted company, state, and federal hazard and traffic safety signs. Use all safety devices and personal protective equipment provided for their protection. Report all hazards, incidents, and near-miss occurrences to their immediate supervisor or Director of Safety within 2 hours, even if no injury or property damage occurred. Promptly report all injuries and suspected work‑related illnesses, however slight, to his/her immediate supervisor or Director of Safety. Employees who drive company vehicles must possess a valid and appropriate driver’s license for driving the vehicle, and employees who operate company equipment must be trained and authorized. Employees operating company vehicles and equipment must comply with state and federal laws and regulations. Seat belt use is required while operating any company vehicle or equipment. Texting while driving is prohibited by Dobson Fiber policy and State Law. Participate in safety committee meetings, training sessions, and surveys as requested and provide input into improving safety. Notify your supervisor or Human Resources immediately of any change in physical or mental condition or use of prescription drugs or illegal drugs that would affect the employee’s job performance or the safety of him/herself or others. Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at any company facility, workplace, worksite, or when operating any company vehicle or equipment. Any employee, contractor, or subcontractor who works or reports to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be subject to disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment or loss of contract. Notify the Human Resources Director within five days of serious driving, drug/alcohol, or criminal convictions. Be a safe worker on and off the job. Help coworkers do their job safely.
