Nursing Assistant

Join the compassionate team in the Mother-Infant Unit at South Shore Health, where you'll play an important role in supporting mothers, newborns, and families during some of life's most meaningful moments. As a Nursing Assistant, you will provide essential patient care support across the unit while helping to create a safe, welcoming, and comforting environment for patients and families.

In this role, you will assist nursing staff with patient care activities, safely transport patients throughout the hospital, and provide observation support for patients requiring close monitoring to ensure their safety and well-being. You will also perform receptionist and clerical responsibilities that help maintain the smooth and efficient operation of the unit. The ideal candidate is compassionate, attentive, dependable, and committed to delivering exceptional care while understanding the unique needs of mothers and their infants.

***Must have prior NA, experience in Acute Care Hospital and be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)***

Compensation Pay Range: $18.58 - $25.01

Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct/non-direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
2. Observes, obtains and reports patient data/status to assigned RN.
3. Responds to peaks in acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
4. Maintains current knowledge/certification.
5. Maintains BLS certification.
6. Functions as a preceptor to new employees.
7. Displays the ability to accept and respond appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
8. Demonstrates professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines to promote a positive/encouraging workplace.
9. Accountable for being informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.
10. Verifies patient identification with 2 identifiers prior to the start of any procedure.
11. Understands individual role/responsibilities in the event of hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
12. Complies with the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing. Adheres to universal precautions, makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times and appropriately disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access.
13. Demonstrates awareness of each patient's fall risk and the appropriate use of safety devices and identified safety interventions.
14. Conducts patient safety rounds utilizing principles of SBAR, follows chain of command to communicate any identified patient or staff safety risks.
15. Demonstrates proper body mechanics for all functions and use of patient lifts as needed.
16. Utilizes software applications required by department and unit standards.
17. Accountable to understand how to operate in downtime.
18. Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
19. Complies with applicable policies and procedures.
20. Safeguards the privacy and security of patient information. The employee complies with policies and procedures relating to SSH's privacy and security programs.
21. Brings potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director or VP.
22. Complies with the mandatory education requirements of the compliance, privacy and security programs.
23. Conveys respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family.
24. Recognizes the patient, and family according to patient preferences, as important members of the health care team.
25. Collaborates with the patient, and family according to patient preferences, in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.

Required Classes/Skills:

• BLS - Basic Life Support

Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

Shift: (3) 12 hour day shifts, 7am to 7:30pm, per week, every third weekend, rotating holidays
