Posted Tuesday, June 9, 2026 | Expires June 24, 2026 Position Summary Responsible for protection and security of the Puyallup Tribal buildings and property. Reports all incidents in writing to the Assistant Director and any criminal activity to both the Assistant Director and the Puyallup Tribal Police Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Protect and secure Tribal buildings and property as assigned, creating a safe environment for all staff and visitors. Be ready and identifiable as security for every shift. Perform routine property checks by walking buildings and parking lots. Work in locations that serve vulnerable populations in compliance with the program’s protocols. Complete incident reports for all non‑criminal incidents in writing to the Public Safety Department; report criminal activity immediately to the Law Enforcement Department. Remain alert throughout the shift and ensure visitors sign in/out at all Tribal buildings. Escort visitors through the building when required. Complete the required daily log for each shift. Follow instructions received from the Supervisor promptly and accurately. Monitor security cameras according to the assigned schedule. Understand and implement building safety protocols for each location; notify Law Enforcement immediately if required. Execute department’s emergency lockdown procedures when needed and collaborate with the program to keep emergency plans up to date. Participate in mandatory events such as Tribal Membership meetings, Pow Wows, cultural events, and construction projects. Use a two‑way radio to communicate with other security staff and law enforcement. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications and Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; or one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to write incident reports and work any assigned shift, including weekends, evenings, graveyard, and holidays. Must be willing to work at any Tribal location as assigned by the supervisor. Other Requirements: Compliance with all applicable Policies and Procedures, including Employee Conduct – Appendix C. Disciplinary action may include, but is not limited to, drinking intoxicating beverages or using drugs on the job or arriving under the influence. Staff will acknowledge that schedules are subject to change at any time without notice by the supervisor(s). Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions; solve problems involving concrete variables. Licenses or Certificates: No felony convictions within the past five years preferred; background checks will determine mitigating factors. May be required to have and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Employees without a driver’s license will be placed at locations that do not require vehicle access. Must pass a background and DSHS check prior to and periodically throughout employment. Must attend and pass WA DOL Security Guard Training within 90 days of hire. 40–80 hours of on‑the‑job training required once hired. Physical Demands Ability to read, write, communicate, and interpret information accurately in English. Deal with the public in a tactical, pleasant, and courteous manner. Regularly talk, hear, use hands to handle, push/pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently stand and walk; occasionally sit. Occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The noise level is quiet. Physical exertion is moderate. The workplace may be stressful when dealing with unruly clients or visitors. Work may be performed in outdoor weather while patrolling the premises.
