Cost Control Specialist

Job Description

KGDR Consultants Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Control Specialist / Cost Control Engineer to support the financial performance of complex engineering and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in project budgeting, cost forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.

This role will be responsible for monitoring project expenditures, identifying cost risks, developing accurate forecasts, and providing actionable financial insights to support effective project management and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.

• Prepare and update monthly project cost forecasts, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC).
\n
• Perform detailed budget versus actual cost analysis, identifying variances and providing explanations for deviations.
\n
• Track project commitments, expenditures, accruals, and anticipated costs to ensure accurate financial reporting.
\n
• Analyze project cost performance and identify potential budget overruns, financial risks, and opportunities for cost optimization.
\n
• Develop and maintain project cash flow forecasts and expenditure projections.
\n
• Prepare monthly cost reports, dashboards, and financial performance summaries for project managers and senior leadership.
\n
• Support the development and maintenance of project cost baselines and cost breakdown structures (CBS).
\n
• Monitor change orders, contract modifications, and scope changes to assess their financial impact on project budgets and forecasts.
\n
• Collaborate with project managers, schedulers, engineering teams, procurement, and finance to ensure accurate cost projections and alignment with project objectives.
\n
• Review contractor and vendor invoices, purchase orders, and financial commitments for accuracy and budget compliance.
\n
• Support project financial reviews and provide recommendations based on cost trends and performance indicators.
\n
• Maintain accurate project cost control records and ensure compliance with company and client reporting requirements.

Qualifications

\n
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related field.
\n
• 3–7 years of experience in project cost control, project controls, financial analysis, or a related role.
\n
• Experience supporting engineering, construction, infrastructure, utilities, or capital projects preferred.
\n
• Strong knowledge of project budgeting, cost forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
\n
• Experience preparing and managing EAC, ETC, cash flow forecasts, and cost performance reports.
\n
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, data analysis, and financial modeling.
\n
• Experience with Power BI, Primavera P6, SAP, Oracle, or other project controls and financial management systems is a plus.
\n
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
\n
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
\n
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to project teams and leadership.
\n
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
