Department : Health Law & Policy Institute Salary : Commensurate with experience Description The University of Houston Law Center (Law Center) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track. Research Scholar position for Health Law. Applicants for the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) from an ABA-accredited law school and have an excellent record of or potential for health law scholarship. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Law Center’s top-ranked Health Law & Policy Institute (HLPI) ( Under the supervision of the Director of HLPI, the position will support HLPI’s research portfolio, including grant-funded research, and identify additional grant and other funding opportunities; network with and advise the Texas Legislature and state regulatory agencies on health law and policy issues; biennially update the Control Measures and Public Health Emergencies: A Texas Bench Book, and participate in stakeholder meetings on control measures and public health emergencies; and oversee the Texas health legislative fellows program. The position will also work with HLPI’s faculty to advise and support health law student activities, including the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy and the Health Law Organization. The position will assist the HLPI Director and Program Director with planning events such as a lecture series and national conferences; developing marketing and promotional materials and managing HLPI’s web and social media presence; fundraising; and other activities that support HLPI’s mission as assigned. The position will also assist HLPI with other activities that support HLPI’s mission as assigned. The position will have opportunities to attend national health conferences on behalf of HLPI, and conduct and present research in health law and policy. The position has no regular teaching obligations at the Law Center, but may be given the opportunity to teach special courses on an overload basis. This academic appointment is for 12 months, corresponding to UH’s fiscal year from the start of September to the end of the following August. The initial appointment may commence mid-year, with future renewal years following the UH fiscal year. The benefits-eligible, non-tenure track (NTT), appointment of the position will have a one-year contract period with no presumption of renewal. Reappointment for future years will depend on performance and need for the position. Subject to generally applicable policies at UHLC, this position is eligible to receive an annual allotment for travel and professional development. As a non-tenure track position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.
