Clinical Research Coordinator II- Environmental Medicine

Overview As a Clinical Research Coordinator, you will assist with several cutting‑edge NIH‑funded studies led by Dr. Ryan Walker at the Human Metabolism and Physiology Lab (HMPL) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NY. The lab’s active research investigates the impact of excess dietary fructose on the human gut microbiome and cardiometabolic disease risk, with a complex clinical dietary protocol that offers full immersion in the research process—from participant screening and enrollment to manuscript publication. Additional projects assess frailty and obesity in high‑risk populations using a state‑of‑the‑art metabolic testing lab. The role also provides opportunities to work with multi‑omics data and to participate in further NIH‑funded studies. The candidate will split time between research and clinical activities, contributing to the Mount Sinai Physiolab team. In this capacity, the coordinator will grow clinical practice through body composition, metabolic, exercise, and dietary assessments, including nutrition and lifestyle counseling using gold‑standard equipment. The role also involves promoting the Physiolab within the New York area. Responsibilities Monitor all aspects of clinical research trials, including but not limited to… Conduct literature reviews. Review and develop familiarity with the protocol(s). Participant screening. Scheduling and participant relations. Preparing and completing critical study documents. Equipment, supplies, and document management and organization. Collecting and analyzing data. Transferring, processing, and storing specimens. Coordinate and assist with participant testing and procedures. Manage day‑to‑day study activities, problem solving, communication, and protocol management. Manage purchasing and inventory management for key study supplies, serving as the point of contact for vendors and the department’s internal finance team. Assist PI and Co‑I’s in preparation of IRB and other regulatory submission documents and modifications. Assist with data analysis and manuscript development. Present research at conferences, grand rounds, etc. Perform body composition assessment using BodPod technology. Perform resting metabolic assessment using a metabolic cart and metabolic chamber technologies. Perform exercise metabolic assessment (FatMax, Submax, VO2max testing) using metabolic cart and metabolic chamber technologies. Engage in individual nutrition and lifestyle counseling with clients where appropriate (including corporate, “weekend warriors”, elite athletes and weight‑loss clients). Assist in management of student volunteers. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in sciences or a related field. At least 2 years of clinical research experience. Preferred Skills Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, exercise physiology or a related field (Master’s preferred). Required: Strong background in nutrition, exercise science, physiology, or a related field and academic and/or work experience in clinical research. Highly preferred: CDR‑credentialed Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian‑Nutritionist (RDN) and American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP‑C) or Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP). Ability to organize tasks and function independently. Display a positive and supportive attitude toward diverse participants. Strong administrative, organizational, verbal communication, and multitasking skills. Willingness to learn and step outside of your comfort zone. Desire to improve capabilities and expand skillsets.
