Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School Director

UAF's Community and Technical College is seeking a professional and energetic Director for our Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School. The position is tasked with the duties and responsibilities of the day-to-day routine operations of the CTC Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School. Do you have an understanding and working knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures, national accreditation practices, licensing standards?

The Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School at UAF is committed to providing high-quality, licensed care to children of enrolled university students, faculty and staff. It may also serve to provide rich observation and practicum experiences for university students studying early childhood education. The lab school is licensed by the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to serve 30 children, ages 36 months through 6 years. It provides a child centered environment rich in learning opportunities. Developmentally appropriate equipment and practices permit children to make choices within a supportive and encouraging structure.

The Bunnell House Director also serves as the designated Administrator under State of Alaska Child Care Licensing and must meet their designated qualifications for Administrator as well (to include being at least 21 years of age, have appropriate management and supervisory skills, and have at least 12 semester hours of college credit in the early childhood field, etc.) As the Director, you will utilize your experience working with children and diverse families as both a teacher and administrator to successfully operate the lab school.

A working knowledge of curriculum development and an understanding of team teaching concepts; along with experience in assessment and evaluation of children's development, and with positive guidance and class management systems, will all be critical for you to thrive in this position. On a daily basis you will put into practice your mature judgment, organizational skills, understanding and application of professional ethics, and your understanding of psychology and sociology of families.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and four years progressively responsible experience relevant to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Program Specialty requires:

•Child Development/Early Childhood or a related field from an accredited college/university.
•Infant-child-adult first aid and CPR certification.
•Three years experience providing direct professional services to young children in a licensed early childhood program.
•Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment and evaluation of children's development, positive guidance and class management systems, understanding of team teaching concepts.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Coalition of Alaska University Staff for Equity (CAUSE)-UAW.

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks. All work is performed on-site. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and  full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the  UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 80, based on education and experience.
