Clinical Research Assistant

Summary Assist in the acquisition and analysis of patient information for multiple clinical research projects under the supervision of Principal Investigators and a Clinical Research Coordinator. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, preparing and maintaining study records, entering data, performing statistical analyses, reviewing literature, and assisting with protocol development. The role may involve performing EKGs, taking vital signs, spinning and shipping blood and tissue samples, and operating computer systems to manage data. Responsibilities A.) Assist research physician in identifying and following up patients who meet inclusion criteria, ensuring protocol eligibility requirements are met. B.) Establish and maintain study records for each participant. Conduct interviews with patients and families, facilitate informed consent, schedule appointments, and coordinate documentation. C.) Review medical records to abstract necessary information, request and follow up on missing data such as lab results. D.) Monitor protocol adherence, alert physicians when laboratory tests, medication protocols, or other procedures are not performed. E.) Perform research‑based procedures such as EKGs, vital signs, blood spinning, and shipping of specimens per protocol specifications. Collect and organize patient data into an appropriate format for database entry, enter study information using pre‑packaged software, and perform computer‑assisted statistical analysis including regression, frequencies, and cross‑tabulations. Write non‑complex programs to reformat information, create new files, and assist in presenting data through graphs and charts. Maintain computer equipment, arrange for internal or external service as needed for repairs and maintenance. Participate in quantitative and qualitative data analyses, assist in planning research protocols, and coordinate activities of other team members involved in the project. Review literature related to research to enhance understanding and gather relevant information. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Applied or Life Sciences or a related field with coursework in research methodologies and microcomputer systems. Three to six months of on‑the‑job experience in research settings, including familiarity with study protocols and data management. Strong knowledge of research methodology theory and techniques. Organizational skills to prioritize multiple projects and manage research information for data entry and reporting. Interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and hospital professionals to exchange information. Analytical skills for developing research protocols, performing statistical analyses, and conducting qualitative/quantitative data analysis. Technical ability to operate and maintain computer systems and software. Knowledge and competency to provide care to patients considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
