Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated HIM Coordinator to join our Health Information Management team. In this role, you'll help ensure the accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance of patient medical records while supporting high-quality patient care. You'll work closely with clinical and administrative teams to maintain complete and accurate health information, coordinate medical record activities, support release-of-information requests, and ensure records are maintained in accordance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and Joint Commission standards. The ideal candidate is highly organized, understands the importance of patient confidentiality, and can work effectively in a fast-paced behavioral healthcare environment.What You'll DoMonitor the accuracy, completeness, and appropriate maintenance of patient medical records.Retrieve discharged patient records from patient care areas daily.Assemble medical records for coding and review.File transcribed reports and refile returned medical records promptly.Monitor transcription services for accuracy and timeliness.Pull medical records for authorized departments and prepare records for release of information.Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and employee information and ensure records are released only to authorized individuals or entities.Respond professionally to telephone calls and medical records requests.Organize and maintain medical records within the department, including shifting and reorganizing charts as needed.Prepare statistical reports and assist with medical record data abstraction and analysis.Support medical care evaluation, quality improvement, performance improvement, and patient-care review activities.Stay current with applicable medical records, privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.Communicate confidentiality requirements and medical records procedures to facility staff as appropriate.Attend required in-services, training, and staff development activities.Follow all facility, departmental, corporate, personnel, safety, attendance, and conduct policies.Support a professional and service-focused environment when interacting with patients, families, employees, physicians, referral sources, and visitors.Perform other duties as assigned to support the Health Information Management Department and hospital operations.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment and meet deadlines.Basic computer skills and ability to learn various healthcare and office software systems.Preferred:Previous medical records, health information management, or healthcare experience.Behavioral health or psychiatric hospital experience.At least one year of medical coding experience.RHIA, RHIT, or Coding Specialist certification.Knowledge & SkillsKnowledge of medical records management and patient information confidentiality.Understanding of federal and state requirements related to medical records and protected health information.Knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.Professional telephone and customer-service skills.Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.Ability to remain calm and effective during emergency situations.Ability to work with patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to:Sit and work at a computer for extended periods.Walk throughout the hospital to retrieve and deliver medical records.Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, turn, and twist when filing and retrieving records.Lift and carry file boxes and supplies weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.Push and pull file drawers and office equipment.Perform repetitive administrative and filing tasks.Read handwritten and typed medical information.Work in a typical medical records/office environment with continuous low-level conversation and office equipment noise.Why Join Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas?
