Job Title: Marine Surveyor Location: Houston, TX (Field-Based) Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt. Summary of Job Purpose The Marine Surveyor effectively determines and communicates the extent of loss or damage associated with ocean marine claims across various business classes, providing loss control survey supervision, inspection, and auditing services to support insurers, brokers, and industrial partners. Primary Job Responsibilities Independently completes required tasks within the normal spectrum of operations. Develops familiarity with marine claims handling and accepts a limited caseload as assigned. Communicates and coordinates with internal and external parties to ensure timely scheduling of surveys. Conducts surveys within assigned territory, including travelling for out-of-territory assignments that may require overnight stays. Identifies nature, cause, and extent of loss without routine assistance and limited guidance. Utilizes testing and sampling tools effectively. Produces clear, concise, and grammatically correct reports with minimal editing required, meeting company standards and SLAs. Engages in peer reviews with others as directed. Logs time and expenses consistently with attention to estimates and client intent. Develops understanding of financial and technical aspects of marine insurance. Maintains client communication with appropriate supervision and demonstrates timely reliability. Pursues completion of NAMS or Lloyds credentialing as applicable. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships across departments, divisions, and locations. Maintains confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information. Upholds EngleMartin values and Foundation commitments. Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree (preferred); high school diploma or equivalent (required). At least three years of prior experience in ocean marine surveying or related marine insurance work, or graduation from a maritime college with valid merchant marine licensure. Prior experience with a cloud enterprise software solution is preferred. Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong research and investigative skills. Rapid learning of multiple internal platforms. Capability to work independently and as part of a team. Working Conditions Frequent work at survey sites, including disaster or catastrophe locations. May require evening, overnight, and weekend travel, sometimes extending two weeks or more. Exposure to external weather and environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes and precipitation, and internal conditions such as small or enclosed spaces, noise, vibrations, chemicals, fumes, and poor ventilation. Physical Activities and Requirements Medium physical work: moving objects up to 50lb.; frequent standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, climbing, and balancing. Occasional repetitive wrist, hand, or finger motions. Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and similar structures. Safe operation of a motor vehicle and travel between work sites. Visual acuity and hearing adequate for business communications. Use of computer terminal and/or smartphone.
