The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for actively coordinating and organizing an efficient clinic workflow for in-person and/or telemedicine visits across Primary Care practice. This position will monitor and resolve potential scheduling issues or complaints during clinic hours. The Lead MA is responsible for the orientation, precepting/onboarding of new staff, and monitoring staff competencies. This position will act as the lead to all Medical Assistant staff, ensuring that all staff adheres to hospital policies, procedures, and operational workflows. The Lead Medical Assistant oversees clinic supply ordering, performs patient intakes, records vital signs and medication lists, assists physicians with minor clinical procedures, monitors laboratory/imaging, and assists with prior authorizations for ambulatory prescriptions. The role also schedules and coordinates diagnostic tests, performs various office and clerical duties, ensures patient privacy, safety and confidentiality, maintains a safe environment, and ensures compliance with infection control policies. Essential Duties Actively coordinate and organize an efficient clinic workflow for in-person and telemedicine visits across Primary Care practice. Monitor and resolve potential scheduling issues or complaints during clinic hours. Monitor the lab/imaging of patients, and may assist with prior authorizations for all ambulatory prescriptions and prescription refill management. Perform various office and clerical duties. Ensure patient’s right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained; maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations; ensure compliance with infection control policies. Responsible for clinic supply ordering under the supervision of Clinic Supervisor. Assist physicians with minor clinical procedures including staple removal, suture removal, and wound care (10%). Act as a lead and mentor to all Medical Assistant staff, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and operational workflows. Responsible for the orientation, precepting/onboarding of new staff, and monitoring staff competencies. Ensure that policies, procedures, and operational workflows are followed. Perform in-person or telemedicine intake as defined by operational procedure, obtaining and appropriately recording patient vital signs, medication list, and all fields as outlined by policy and procedure. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized/technical training: graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program. 2 years experience as a medical assistant, preferably with at least 1 year experience in an ambulatory care setting. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of ICD9 coding, data collection for billing procedures and charge posting. Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team. Ability to problem-solve and be self‑motivated. Capacity to multi‑task, manage priorities, and workflow. Preferred Qualifications Spanish language skills. Knowledge of medical terminology. Required Licenses/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required in LA City only).
