Description The Florence Police Department is currently accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer. The City of Florence is a growing city of approximately 1,200 residents located between Killeen/Fort Hood and Georgetown along State Highway 195. Florence Police Department currently consists of seven (7) full-time and reserve police officers. Our rapidly expanding department seeks qualified, hard‑working, and dedicated personnel to join our team. Duties and Responsibilities Conduct patrols within the city limits to protect citizens from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Enforce all laws including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws. Respond to all calls for service, accidents, and reports of crime. Investigate criminal offenses that occur within district’s jurisdiction. Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence. Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary. Write effective legal incident reports. Testify in court as needed. Consultation Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance. Safety Help provide traffic control during city and athletic events, school zone enforcement, or at any other time deemed necessary. Operate all equipment, including firearms, according to established safety procedures. Administration Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports. Produce and submit required reports through the appropriate state or federal agency. Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Florence Police Department vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Officers are also provided with a take‑home vehicle according to policy. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing. Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse, prolonged driving. Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds). Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), moderate exposure to noise, frequent districtwide travel. Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day. Advanced knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws. Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs. Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests. Certificates and Licenses Required Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be a United States Citizen. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and have a good driving record at the time of employment and during the tenure of employment. Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor crimes of a violent nature or involving moral turpitude, been convicted of a misdemeanor crime or domestic violence, been placed on diversion, nor have an expunged conviction. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Officer Standards and Education Basic Certification. Salary This is an unpaid position. Reserve Patrol Officers will be required to work a minimum of 24 hours monthly conducted during four patrol shifts. #J-18808-Ljbffr
