ABOUT YOU

QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of the mission of a Sheriff’s Department and the role of a peace officer.

ABILITY TO

Satisfactorily complete the POST basic course (Academy) within 12 months of appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent (GED) is required. Candidates using a GED must have obtained scores of at least 35 on each test section and an overall score of at least 45. College-level coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice, criminology, or a related field is highly desirable. Applicant must be 20.5 years old by the application filing deadline and 21 years old by the date of hire.

CITIZENSHIP

California Government Code Section 1031 requires a peace officer to be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

LICENSE

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a California Class C Driver's License by the time of appointment.

TESTING AND ELIGIBLE LIST

Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination may consist of a highly qualified review, application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies while the list remains active.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be willing to work any shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.

BACKGROUND PROCESS

Successful applicants will undergo a rigorous background investigation including a criminal records check, DMV record verification, and employment and education history verification. Applicants may be disqualified for past criminal convictions, a poor driving record, false background information, or other reasons.

DRUG USE STANDARDS

Applicants must have no illegal drug use within the timelines described in the Pre-Employment Drug Use Guidelines. Successful applicants will be given a polygraph examination and/or computerized voice stress analysis.

PERSO ANIMAL TATTOOS

No tattoo or body art that is offensive, demeaning, or prejudicial to good order shall be visible. Examples of offensive tattoos include those that promote discrimination, gang affiliation, supremacist or extremist groups, drug use, or sexually explicit or obscene material. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS

All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers. Employment requires affirmation of a loyalty oath and completion of all required training. Employees must return to work when ordered during an emergency.
