Police Officer Trainee
The City of Sausalito invites applications for the position of Police Officer Trainee. Pay is $35.31 hourly during academy attendance and $91,811 annually upon successful completion of the academy. Hiring bonus of $5,000 upon academy graduation and $5,000 after successful completion of the probationary period ($10,000 total).
The position becomes a full-time probationary Police Officer position upon successful completion of POST Academy. Open until filled.
The City of Sausalito Police Department seeks empathetic, driven, collaborative Police Officer Trainees. The Police Officer Trainee learns to enforce Federal, State, and local laws and to respond to calls for the protection of life and property by attending a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for the performance of Police Officer duties. This position requires a thorough background investigation, a polygraph/voice stress analysis examination, a psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment.
Ideal candidates will possess good customer service skills, exercise sound judgment and initiative, be adaptable and able to occasionally work under stressful or difficult conditions, interact comfortably and effectively with a diverse population of individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and must be 21 years of age at the date of hire, of good moral character with no felony convictions, and lawfully able to possess a firearm.
Qualifications include education equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school or possession of a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university, with college coursework in police science, criminal justice, or a related field desirable. Special requirements include being legally authorized to work in the United States, being of good moral character with no felony convictions, and being lawfully able to possess a firearm. A valid California Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record is also required.
