Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

This role involves providing nursing care on a General Surgery unit focused on Med Surg, Oncology, and Neuro Surgical recovery. The position is oriented towards night shifts with an assignment length of 13 weeks.

Shift and Hours:

• Shift: Nights, 1900-0730
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48
• Weekend Hours: As required by the facility/every other weekend

Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to provide patient care for individuals post-trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities.
• Maintain professional accountability for the delivery of patient care.
• Evaluate the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers.
• Coordinate patient care in collaboration with ancillary departments to enhance patient comfort and effectiveness of care.
• Ensure the confidentiality of patient information and uphold patient rights.

Unit Information:

• Number of Beds: 30
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 on Day Shift; 1:6-7 on Night Shift (not guaranteed).
• Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, SCD machines, PCA pumps, low air loss mattresses, remote telemetry monitors.
• Electronic Medical Record System: EPIC.

Qualifications:

• Current RN License (meets eligibility requirements for licensure in the state or currently licensed).
• Required Certifications: BLS from AHA only.
• Preferred Certifications: ACLS from AHA only, TNCC.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Med Surg.
• Type of Patients: Surgical (GI, GU, Plastics, Overflow Ortho).
• Must demonstrate a patient-focused attitude and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Additional Information:

The role requires the ability to stand and walk for the majority of duty hours. It encompasses bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance. The position may involve varying schedules to meet patient care demands, along with exposure to blood and body fluids. Compliance with the mission, values, and service standards is essential.
