Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active Illinois license Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience - Previous travel experience - Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit - Heparin drip experience Description: This position involves working in a fast-paced neuro med-surg acute environment. The unit consists of 54 beds, including semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio during day shifts is 1:4-5 and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and various other neuroscience cases. RNs are required to titrate drips, specifically heparin titrated based on PTT. A charge nurse is available 24/7 and generally does not take an assignment unless staffing is short. House supervisors are also present around the clock. Patient care techs assist on the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening, and 1:10-12 at night. RNs are not required to read telemetry strips, as monitors are managed house-wide. This position requires every other weekend and holiday work. Floating is required in rotation with the rest of the staff. Orientations include unit-specific training with a preceptor for direct patient care. The dress code allows for no specific scrub color, but tattoos must be covered while on duty. Piercings are restricted to the ears only.
