Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have Level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience. Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Experience with titrating heparin drips required. Description: The unit comprises 54 beds with 2 semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratios on day shifts are 1:4-5, and nights are 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and various neurological issues. Additional medical overflow may occur. Charge nurses are available 24/7, and they generally do not take patient assignments unless necessary. House supervisors are also on site 24/7 for support. Patient care techs are present, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. Registered nurses may need to troubleshoot respiratory equipment. House-wide telemetry systems are in place, and nurses do not need to read strips. 12-hour shifts are standard, with an expectation to work every other weekend and holidays. Floating among units is required based on staffing needs. Scrubs do not have a color requirement, though tattoos should be covered while on duty. Orientation involves 2 days of training, including computer systems and unit-specific instructions with an educator and preceptor.
