Co-Op - IT - Windows Systems Administration

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO is seeking a Windows Systems Administration Co-Op to support endpoint management, device-data quality, and Tier 2 administration activities. The student will gain hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune, Windows systems, endpoint inventory, application deployment, ServiceNow asset records, incident analysis, and technical documentation.

The student will help improve the accuracy and visibility of endpoint and asset information while supporting Windows lifecycle and technology-governance initiatives. Assignments will also include reviewing operational trends, documenting recurring issues, and identifying opportunities to improve administrative workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Microsoft Intune device groups.
• Review device compliance dashboards and identify items requiring follow-up.
• Identify stale or inactive computer accounts.
• Audit endpoint inventory and asset records for accuracy.
• Validate workstation naming standards.
• Assist with Windows deployment-readiness assessments.
• Document workstation build and administration procedures.
• Test new application deployments.
• Review incident trends and identify frequently occurring issues.
• Create knowledge articles for common technical problems.
• Update troubleshooting and resolution documentation.
• Assist with ticket categorization and data cleanup.
• Track service-level performance metrics.
• Create service-request fulfillment guides.
• Help reconcile endpoint information across Microsoft Intune, inventory systems, and ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management.
• Recommend improvements to endpoint-management and asset-data workflows.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of Windows operating systems.
• Interest in endpoint management, systems administration, and IT operations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document technical processes and procedures clearly.
• Ability to review data, identify inconsistencies, and follow through on corrective actions.
• Exposure to Microsoft Intune or another endpoint-management platform is preferred.
• Basic PowerShell scripting knowledge is a plus.
• Familiarity with ServiceNow or IT asset-management concepts is helpful.
• Ability to learn new tools and collaborate with IT and operational teams.

Salary Range
