HMP Highpoint - Caseworker - Prison Offender Manager

The job holder will lead the management and assessment of selected low to medium risk prisoners and develop, implement, review and evaluate their sentence plans. The role focuses on building effective and supportive relationships with prisoners to reduce re‑offending. This is a non‑operational, rotational role with no line management responsibilities. The holder will provide support to probation officers in high risk case management as required. Responsibilities, Activities and Duties Supervise, manage, signpost and advise prisoners in a safe and secure environment. Apply and adhere to national and local policies. Establish and maintain professional relationships with prisoners and staff. Maintain and update systems in line with local agreements. Prepare relevant documentation for managers and quality checks. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings. Assess and manage risk posed by offenders to protect victims and the public. Provide information and advice to criminal justice agencies and partner organisations. Support risk management and work with other agencies to prevent re‑offending. Carry out full range of offender management tasks for low to medium risk cases. Interview prisoners within prescribed timescales and set/review targets. Use OASys to identify risks and manage offenders. Prepare and lead sentence planning meetings. Coordinate activities within sentence plans and liaise with prisoners and agencies. Encourage prisoner participation in education and interventions. Produce professional written reports to criminal justice agencies. Liaise with Community Offender Managers regarding ROTL and HDC. Support delivery of plans for recalled prisoners. Complete all required paperwork within relevant timescales. Highlight significant concerns to Heads of Offender Management or Orderly Officer. Attend MAPPA boards and work with external agencies for public safety. Liaise with Foreign National Department or UK Border Agency for foreign national prisoners. Instigate child contact checks and share safeguarding information. Act as a resettlement advisor for the caseload. Collaborate with colleagues and maintain effective team relationships, especially with Key Workers. Model pro‑social behaviour and challenge anti‑social attitudes. Use computer‑based systems to produce, update and maintain records. Work within the aims and values of HMPPS. Experience and Ability Experience working with diverse populations facing social and personal difficulties. Understanding of factors related to offending, such as substance misuse and accommodation issues. Commitment to the principles of case management. Knowledge of risk management and risk assessment for offenders and victims. Experience planning and coordinating work and motivating individuals or groups. Experience with equality, diversity and community engagement. Knowledge of the criminal justice system and legislation. Experience with evidence‑based practice and risk/needs assessment tools. Completed Women Awareness Staff Training (WASP) if applicable; Juvenile Awareness Staff Programme (JASP) and child protection training if applicable. Ability to analyse complex information for assessments and decisions. Clear verbal and written communication skills with offenders, professionals and at hearings. Empathy and constructive engagement with diverse backgrounds. Completion of mandatory training as required.
