Advanced Practice Provider- Gastroenterology: Inpatient/Outpatient (Wheeling, WV)

Position Summary The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) coordinates and delivers comprehensive care for gastroenterology patients, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, collaborating with medical teams, and educating staff and patients. This is a 5‑day a week position located in Wheeling, WV. Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner Graduate of a CCNE‑accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing National Certification from one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers Licensure or eligibility to licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia American Heart Association BLS certification (advanced life support training at the discretion of the department) Experience for Nurse Practitioner Internal Medicine or gastroenterology experience preferred Eligible new graduates will be considered Preferred Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner ACNP or FNP certification preferred Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant required Graduate of an ARC‑PA approved Physician Assistant training program required Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine American Heart Association BLS certification (advanced life support training at the discretion of the department) Experience for Physician Assistant Internal Medicine, gastroenterology, or hepatology experience preferred Eligible new graduates will be considered Preferred Qualifications for Physician Assistant Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred Core Duties and Responsibilities Manage comprehensive and individualized care for gastroenterology/hepatology patients and their families immediately post discharge and in the ambulatory setting. Complete consults and pre‑procedure evaluations. Perform integrated assessments and comprehensive medication reviews for discharge of gastroenterology/hepatology patients. Order additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate in collaboration with faculty or following established clinical guidelines. Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests within scope of practice. Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings. Document comprehensive clinical evaluations in the medical record. Facilitate patient disposition by coordinating services and arranging follow‑up appointments. Develop individualized plans of care, including teaching and referral to the health care team. Provide care across all age groups. Identify unstable or complex cases and facilitate intervention as appropriate. Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care. Serve as a coordinator for follow‑up in the ambulatory setting or longitudinal care facility. Assist in the collection of outcome measures where applicable. Utilize critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning for individualized patient needs. Operate equipment safely. Base decisions on scientific principles and established standards of care. Apply teaching theory and strategies to educate staff, students, patients, families, and the community. Promote an environment that supports learning. Continuously update own knowledge base. Complete all identified clinical competencies. Act as a resource for staff caring for gastroenterology/hepatology patients. Provide educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel. Participate in community programs and literature distribution where appropriate. Document care plans, interventions, evaluations, and disposition plans clearly and concisely. Collaborate with leaders and staff to achieve outcome‑based improvements. Lead development and implementation of practice changes that improve patient outcomes. Work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to solve problems and provide support. Participate and initiate inter‑disciplinary approaches to patient care, program development, and education. Promote innovation in care delivery for gastroenterology/hepatology patients and families. Lead committees and task forces as needed. Document hours and submit billing reports where appropriate. Analyze hepatology data and recommend or implement changes as needed. Participate in clinical trials and research studies alongside the Principal Investigator. Assist faculty, administrators, and directors in outcome measure collection. Perform other duties or projects as assigned. Physical Requirements Heavy or hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning patients, standing, walking, carrying patients or equipment up to 40 pounds.
