APL is seeking an attorney to support the Ethics & Conduct (E&C) Office within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). As An Attorney You will assist APL’S Compliance and Mission Support Group, working with staff across the Laboratory to ensure compliance with APL policies and applicable laws and regulations. These duties include, but are not limited to, providing expertise, analysis, and support for personal conflicts of interest reviews, advice concerning risk and mitigation related to various activities across the Lab, compliance with APL’s Code of Ethics and Conduct and Lab-wide training. You will assist the Compliance and Mission Support Group with the investigation of alleged policy violations arising under APL's Code of Ethics and Conduct. As part of this responsibility, you will conduct fact-finding, conduct necessary legal research, analyze information gathered, and prepare confidential reports of investigative findings, including recommendations for consideration by management. You will also enter relevant matters into APL case management systems and assist with data analysis as needed. You will assist on a multitude of exciting initiatives and projects to advance novel approaches to risk management and compliance. You will assist in responding to government investigations and queries as appropriate. You will assist the Compliance and Mission Support Group, with creating, developing, and presenting briefs or training to personnel at all levels across the Lab on related topics. You will perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Have a Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school and admission to practice law in one or more jurisdictions. Have at least three (3) years of directly applicable experience in the Ethics and Compliance field. Have experience advising on ethics and conduct matters, conducting internal investigations, and working in a role responsible for a compliance program aligned with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and contractual obligations. Possess strong inter-personal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills, mediation skills, and acumen working with employees of a variety of backgrounds. Possess excellent legal and practical research skills. Possess the ability to think critically and make clear and well-reasoned decisions in complex and ambiguous situations. Possess strong organizational skills, a flexible work style and schedule, and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple challenging projects in a demanding work environment. Have demonstrated unquestionable integrity and excellent judgment. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign‑on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
