Duties

Help

The incumbent will serve as an Investigative Analyst in the Analytics and Oversight Branch. The incumbent will perform a mixture of basic and routine, but progressively more difficult assignments, under the close direction of the manager or more experienced specialist. Applies basic technical knowledge of investigative procedures, concepts, principles, and practices to analyze work products and other investigative activities. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Participate in quality assessments of investigations, closed cases, and management inquiries to quantify and qualify operational activities, and identify patterns, along with trends and gaps to support Lines of Business and Staff Offices that may impact the safety of the National Air Space (NAS). Provide reports that identify insights, vulnerabilities, and risks to Senior Management.

Assist in researching and analyzing a wide variety of data and information sources to develop investigative reporting, analyze trends, and to develop briefing material and status reports for FAA Departmental and Congressional leadership. Use a variety of computer programs, databases, data systems, and sophisticated analytical software, graphics, and other automated applications to document potential integrity concerns and perform trend analysis to inform proactive approaches and strategies. Assess, use, interpret, and analyze government and open source data systems for thorough analysis and reporting as necessary.

Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Works under detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.

Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and technical compliance with the requirements of the project or other work activity.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Recent Graduates Program you must apply within two (2) years of having obtained a qualifying degree or certificate beyond the high school level from a qualifying educational institution.

Exception to the 2 year application eligibility requirement: A veteran who, due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying during any portion of the two-year eligibility period, will have a full two-year period of eligibility upon his/her release or discharge from active duty. In no case, however, may the eligibility period extend beyond six years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.

In addition to the qualifications that must be met for the Recent Graduates Program:

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least a GS-4 that demonstrates the ability to:

1. Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
2. Plan and organize work; and
3. Communicate effectively

OR

4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
