Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description

The Forklift Operator safely operates powered industrial trucks to move raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products throughout a manufacturing facility. This role supports production efficiency by ensuring materials are accurately staged, transported, and stored in the right locations and delivered on time to production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.

Responsibilities

• Operate sit-down, stand-up, or reach forklifts to transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods between production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.

• Handle materials safely and efficiently, including loading, transporting, staging, and storing pallets and other materials without damage.

• Load and unload pallets and other materials on and off trucks, racks, and staging areas while maintaining product integrity.

• Use RF scanners and related systems to scan, label, and record material movements in warehouse management or ERP systems with high accuracy.

• Perform quality checks by inspecting materials for visible damage, verifying counts, and promptly reporting any discrepancies or issues.

• Conduct daily forklift inspections, monitor equipment condition, and report mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.

• Maintain clean and organized aisles, staging areas, and work zones to support safe and efficient material flow.

• Follow all workplace safety protocols, including traffic patterns, speed limits, and safe operating procedures for powered industrial trucks.

• Support production and inventory activities by ensuring materials are staged and delivered to the correct locations in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to operate sit-down forklifts safely and efficiently in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

• Experience in material handling, including transporting raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.

• Proficiency in using RF scanners to scan, label, and record material movements.

• Strong understanding of safe loading and unloading practices for pallets, racks, and staging areas.

• Capability to perform basic quality checks, including visual inspection of materials and verification of counts.

• Ability to perform daily forklift inspections and identify potential mechanical issues.

• Commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to traffic patterns, housekeeping standards, and safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a production, manufacturing, or inventory-focused environment.

• Familiarity with warehouse management systems or ERP systems for tracking material movements.

• Background in supporting wholesale distribution or building materials handling.

• Comfort working in a small warehouse environment with close coordination across functions.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small warehouse environment that supports manufacturing and distribution activities. You will work around powered industrial trucks and material handling equipment, regularly moving pallets and materials between production areas, storage locations, and loading docks. The setting emphasizes organization, clean aisles, and clear traffic patterns to maintain safety and efficiency. You can expect a hands-on, physically active role that involves frequent forklift use, material handling, and close coordination with production and warehouse teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Allen, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
