Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Full-Time, Day/Night Variable Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week + 2 on-call shifts in 4 weeks Experience: 2 years in a Medical/Surgical environment as a Registered Nurse License: RN Licensure in Client Certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA only), NIHSS Must-Have: 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical/Surgical setting Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The RN develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skills in the delivery of care. He/She assesses patient and family needs through active listening and analyzing data obtained through observation, assessment, technology, or health team communication. The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient's progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response, changes in condition, or reprioritization of needs. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. He/She encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The RN understands the responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. He/She motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge. He/She documents the education provided and the patient and family response to the education. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in nursing practice and care delivery. He/She engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development. The RN takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. He/She uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with the patient and family. The RN seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in moments of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating patient and family needs. He/She strives to understand what is most important to the patient and family, acknowledging that they are the central focus of all care and services. The RN embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. The RN demonstrates skill in the application of interventions, including medication administration. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
