Peakstone Law Group is seeking an experienced, motivated Civil Paralegal to join our growing Colorado Springs law firm.

Our civil practice includes domestic relations, probate and estate administration, probate litigation, guardianships and conservatorships, and estate planning . We are looking for a paralegal who can work across multiple practice areas, take meaningful ownership of assigned matters, and become an integral part of the legal team.

This is not a position for someone who wants to wait for a daily list of tasks. The right candidate will understand that excellent paralegals help drive cases forward. They identify what needs to happen next, maintain deadlines, communicate with clients, prepare filings and discovery, organize cases for attorneys, and help ensure that nothing falls through the cracks.

The Position

The Civil Paralegal will work closely with the attorneys in PLG's civil practice and will have responsibilities spanning several practice areas.

Depending upon the matter and attorney, responsibilities may include:

• Managing deadlines, calendars, and case-related tasks across an assigned caseload;

• Preparing and filing pleadings, motions, notices, disclosures, and other court documents;

• Assisting with domestic relations matters involving divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, child support, maintenance, and related proceedings;

• Assisting with probate and estate administration, including preparation of probate filings, notices, inventories, accountings, and related documents;

• Assisting with guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, including initial filings, notices, reports, and ongoing court requirements;

• Assisting attorneys with contested probate, domestic relations, and other civil litigation matters;

• Preparing and responding to discovery requests;

• Organizing and reviewing financial records, medical records, discovery materials, exhibits, and other case documents;

• Preparing hearing and trial notebooks and assisting attorneys with hearing and trial preparation;

• Communicating regularly and professionally with clients regarding case status, documents, deadlines, and procedural matters;

• Communicating with courts, opposing counsel, experts, fiduciaries, and other professionals;

• Maintaining accurate and organized electronic client files;

• Recording billable time contemporaneously and accurately;

• Identifying upcoming deadlines and necessary next steps before they become emergencies; and

• Helping attorneys and other members of the PLG team provide responsive, organized, and exceptional service to our clients.

We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, proactive, technologically capable, and exceptionally attentive to detail .

Just as importantly, we want someone who takes ownership of their work.

The ideal candidate does not simply ask, "What do you want me to do?" Instead, after becoming familiar with a case, the candidate is able to say, "Here is what I believe needs to happen next."

Strong candidates will have:

• Prior paralegal or significant legal-assistant experience;

• Experience in Colorado domestic relations, probate, guardianship/conservatorship, or civil litigation matters;

• Familiarity with Colorado state court procedures and electronic filing;

• Strong written communication and document-drafting skills;

• Excellent organizational and deadline-management skills;

• The ability to manage multiple active matters and competing priorities;

• Strong client-service and interpersonal skills;

• Comfort working with clients who may be experiencing stressful, emotional, or difficult circumstances;

• The judgment to recognize when an issue can be handled independently and when attorney involvement is necessary;

• Strong computer and technology skills;

• The ability and willingness to learn new practice areas, systems, and procedures; and

• A genuine desire to be part of a team and contribute to the growth of the firm.

Experience in more than one of our civil practice areas is particularly valuable , but we do not expect every candidate to have experience in all of them. A strong paralegal with substantial experience in one or more areas and the ability to learn quickly is encouraged to apply.
