Job Title: Mechanical Tool Designer



Location: Lewis Center, OH

Key Skills

• Design and develop manufacturing automation systems, assembly automation, machine integration, and process optimization solutions.
• Design conveyor systems, material handling equipment, transfer mechanisms, and SPMs.
• Develop pick-and-place systems using pneumatic, servo, and robotic technologies.
• Design and integrate industrial robotic automation for assembly, machine tending, packaging, inspection, and material handling.
• Design jigs, fixtures, tooling, and mechanical assemblies for manufacturing, testing, and inspection.
• Strong knowledge of bowl feeder selection, high-speed automation line design, and sensor selection.
• Experience with standard components such as LM Guides, servo motors, and other mechanical components.
• Strong knowledge of electrical devices such as switches, load cells, LVDTs, etc.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Strong ability to conceptualize and develop solutions for complex mechanical design requirements.
• Ability to coordinate with onsite/offshore teams and manage a team of approximately 10 12 members.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations related to strength of materials, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, hardness, and other design requirements.
• Develop working drawings, detail drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Evaluate machine feasibility for sequential manufacturing operations.
• Review designs for compliance with applicable OSHA, CE, and customer-specific standards.
• Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, and hardness.
• Coordinate with customers, internal engineering teams, vendors, and technical staff.
• Support mechanical design activities and periodically supervise project-level design work.
• Coordinate with electrical designers and programmers regarding machine inputs/outputs, operations, and sequences.
• Assist fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians during debug, integration, troubleshooting, and system completion.
• Determine appropriate tools, fixtures, and equipment for fabrication and assembly.
• Select appropriate purchased components and prepare requisitions with required delivery dates.
• Review project requirements, drawings, test specifications, procedures, and equipment needs.
• Maintain project documentation, drawings, schedules, registers, correspondence, and related records.
• Communicate project progress, estimated timelines, and resource requirements.
• Follow applicable health, safety, and ISO procedures.
• Assist in developing mechanical design and department standards.
